1. Introduction

The Institute of Precision Guidance and Control was established in 1986. The institute currently has 7 professors, 18 associate professors/associate researchers and more than 100 graduate students. The Institute of Precision Guidance and Control is a rigorous, active, and pioneering team. In a harmonious and united environment of learning and research, it is constantly expanding the talent training and excellent research with an open, innovative and aggressive spirit.

2. Disciplines

There are two the second-level disciplines in the Institute of Precision Guidance and Control, one is the aircraft control and information which belongs to the Aeronautical and Astronautical Science and Technology (the first-level discipline, double first-class discipline, A+ class in the fourth discipline evaluation); the other one is the Navigation, Guidance and Control which belongs to the Control Science and Engineering (first-level discipline).

3. Education

After forty years of continuous development and growth, the Institute of Precision Guidance and Control has formed a complete training system for undergraduates and graduate’s education and trained many leading talents for national aerospace areas. There are two national college student innovation practice bases, including “College Students’ Microsatellite and Application Innovative Base” and “Graduate Students Creative Research Base for Microsatellite”. In addition, four courses in the institute was selected as the national first-class undergraduate course, including (1) Microsatellite Control Virtual Simulation Experiment, (2) The Principle of Spacecraft Control, (3) The Basis of Modern Control Theory, (4) The Principle of Guidance System.

4. Research

With the support of more than 100 national, ministerial and provincial project programs, the institute has strong scientific research strength and excellent experimental conditions. Until now, Five microsatellites including Macao Science Satellite have been developed and successfully launched by the institute since 2016. In addition, there are more than 100 publications annually in international journals and conferences and issues a number of monographs and textbooks. The main research areas of the institute include:

(1) microsatellite technology and applications

(2) spacecraft control and simulation

(3) aircraft precision guidance and control

(4) space monitoring and image processing

(5) advanced control theory and applications

5. Laboratories

(1) National-Local Joint Engineering Laboratory of Microsatellite Technology and Application
